About once or twice during an outing of up to 15 miles the throttle will not respond. The car rolls off from a stop light and then stumbles. There is NO throttle response for about 5 to 10 seconds then the power slowly comes back. It might not do this again for another 10 or 20 miles.
Steady state on the highway the car runs great. It also starts and idles just great.
I had this throttle reponse issue happen once before for about a month - ten years ago. I took the throttle position switch apart and pulled the connector off the ECU and cleaned it. The problem did not return 'til now - 120,000 miles and ten years. All the 700 FAQ statements say the fault mode for the throttle position switch is high idle.
I've heard this "dead tip-in" issue can be a symptom of a bad ECU. If the ECU was bad it wouldn't have worked for ten years.
Any suggestions on how to diagnose this dangerous intermittent condition?
