I just bought a 1994 940 wagon with 90K miles and complete service records starting at 25K miles. According to the records, at the 40K and 60K intervals (performed by a Volvo dealer) the transmission fluid was changed, apparently by draining the pan and adding 3 quarts of fluid. Obviously this didnt replace all the fluid since the AW transmissions hold 7-8 quarts. The fluid on the dipstick is definitely brown, not red or pink. I wonder why the Volvo dealer didnt flush the entire transmission and replace all the fluid ?
The transmission shifts OK, but I am planning to flush the transmission as described in the FAQ. Any recommendations for replacement fluid ? From reading some threads, synthetic might be a good idea. Should synthetic be replaced every 20K miles ?
Thanks,
Mike
