Hunting idle and stalling when cold 700 1989

Hi all,
The 89 740ti is acting up. when starting in the morning and after sitting for an hour, the engine stalls once or twice, hunts valiantly to idle, sputters at the first couple of stop signs and then runs great once warm. It sounds like the idle switch on the throttle body is clicking when closed, but i have not tested it. The cap, rotor, plugs and wires are almost new. I also cleaned the IAC. The turbo is on the way out and I've had a few blue clouds behind me on hard acceleation. she uses oil too. Ive been through the FAQ's but I'm not up to speed on proper navigation yet (I can't find what I want to find). Any ideas, I have a complete parts car at my disposal, I just don't want to swap everything I can, I want to know what the problem is and learn.
