Brickboarders, I just popped the hood on the 740 (250K) and first noticed the central bolt on the timing belt cover hanging out of the hole. Tightened that, then noticed that the bolt closest to passenger side was gone -- the plastic broken off on both sides of the belt housing around the bolt. I figure that's going to be tough to replace.
I checked b/c wife mentioned a rubber-burning smell at stoplights. I didn't catch a whiff of that, but there does seem to be an abnormal noise -- not sure. The car drives fine.
The timing belt housing can be jiggled lots more than on my 240 as a result of this. My immediate question is whether the car can continue to be driven like this. My less immediate question is whether there are good sources for the housing -- both sides. Have yet to find a good j'yard in northern Va. Many thanks.
