Rear pad oddity 940 900 1994

Last night I noticed a noise coming form the driver's rear wheel. It seemed to get worse at he drive went on. I would describe it as a low hum or rumble. I suspected bearings or any one of a number of possibilities back there. I read up on the rear end problems and was heartened to see that there is usually few problems with those things but still worried. Took off the tire this morning and foound the driver's rear pads about 1MM in thickness. Here's a problem. Checked the other side and they were about 4MM, as the inspector had indicated earlier this month. He only checked the passenger side.

Had some used pads from the 240 (gotta love Volvo) and changed out the thinner ones. Everything seems fine now.

I remain concerned that the left side pads wore evenly but were considereably thinner than the right. I just got the car so I have no idea what the PO did but he likey did no work on the car, himself. Any ideas why the pads were were so different from side to side?
