940 electrical gremlin theory... opinions? 900

I have been trolling through the 940 Brickboard posts and notice a real trend of 940's that either die while driving or will not start.

The general prognosis seems to be a faulty fuel pump relay.

My question is this. Could a faulty fuel pump relay cause a complete knockout of the electric system? So that nothing electric works at all?
Clock won't work... door lights won't work... horn won't work. Then, 3 minutes later it all magically starts working again and the car restarts?

I ask, only because I've experienced this again lately.
I had this same problem 12 weeks ago.. then is stopped... (after I replaced the fuel pump relay) so I stopped worrying about it.

One clue: just before the problem occurred, I had been driving (on vacation) over some extremely uneven dirt roads where the whole chassis of the car must have been twisted considerably. My theory (merely a theory) is that this twisting might have pulled out an electrical relay connection in the fuse box. After removing the ash tray and pushing all the relays back into the socket board, the problem seemed fixed and did not recur.

Any theories, speculation or guesses are welcomed.

Thanks!
