how to test M46 overdrive relay 700 1988

I just had a quick question, My overdrive stopped working wasnt the switch in the shifter and all the contacts were good under the car so I swapped out the relay after that it worked well for about two and a half weeks then died again. I cant imagine blowing out the new relay that quickly and if I did how so soon?Thanks guys
