CL driver's door problem - solved, I hope 200 1987

I tried to post this as a question yesterday, but even if I logged in allright I never managed to make a posting. Strange. Anyway, this was my problem and my attempt to fix it:

The plastic ring(/switch) that fits around the driver's door's locking cylinder has fallen off twice during the last two months. Most annoying. The failure this time also drained the battery over a period of two days, as the switch was stuck in locking-up position. Grrr. A quick researched proved that normal reassembling would mean a new failure in the immediate future, as the clip seemed to have lost most of its snap. Strange, as I installed the system only two years ago using new original parts out of the box.

This is the part I try to describe in my clumsy way:

I tried to fit a zip tie around the ring to keep it together, but found no good position for it. That was when I tried to call you guys for help. What I ended up doing, was to drill a hole in the ribbed part, put a zip tie through the hole and anchor the tie to the ring like shown in this picture:

I think it will hold up this time.
Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it?

Regards,
Erling.
