120 New Exhaust: need a bigger air filter? 120-130

My original 65 wagon with dual SU's had a single hole exhaust manifold. With the help of this forum I obtained and installed the dual hole exhaust manifold. I also replaced the original exhaust system with the Simons sport exhaust. It went pretty smooth.

Regarding air filters: I have the original air filters (about 1" thick). I note that the later models have a thicker air filter than the earlier model 120's. The diameters look the same, but that later versions look to be about 2" thick vs. the earlier versions which are around 1" think.

Question: Although I have a B18, do I need these later model type (i.e. thicker) air filters given that my exhaust system is more "free flowing" (or does it matter as the air fuel mixture is the same)? Or are the air filters thicker on later models because of the B20 (vs. B18) engine?
