One of the gripes from early reviews of the Amazon when it was new was the lack of a glovebox. The parcel shelf is not particularly useful. Stuff falls off it when it is piled high and it would be good to be able to hide the MP3 player from prying eyes. Has anyone managed to design and make a more useful glovebox that can bolt on underneath the dash? (or modify a modern glovebox to fit) Looking at modern cars (with airbags in the dash) it should be possible to make a useful glovebox that doesn't intrude into the dash or get in the way of legs. I'm thinking of taking out the parcel shelf and working out a good geometry to hinge a box down. In the down position it would be in a similar location to where the parcel shelf used to be. I don't really care that it is not original, as long as it can easily be put back to original at a later date.
In the meantime, I have made up two swivel trays to move some of the usual parcel shelf guano down under the front seats. They pivot on the support bolt under the centre front of the front seat. Trays are 25mm deep, base is 3mm hardboard or plywood and the rim is 25mm MDF cut out to give a 10mm wide rim. Initial experience is good - easy to swivel for access and they prevent stuff rolling round under your feet. I'll take them out soon and either paint them or cover with vinyl upholstery fabric.
Anyone have better ideas for hiding stuff inside your car?
