Thanks for the advice. I pulled the FPR off and the o-ring was cracked. I went to car parts store and got a fuel injection o-ring kit. There was in it an o-ring that looked right, but doesn't seal. I see this FPR is different than the one on my 1992 240 B230F. That engine takes Bosch part # 0 280 160 294. I can't find a number on the one in my 740. The connector to the rail is shorter and the o-ring looks flat. The FPR on the 240 has a longer connector, with a spacer and the o-ring is rounded. So, there are 2 different FPRs here? Anybody know the part number of the one I need. Could it be C3000-82143? and cost $150.00??
Please say no. $55.00 is bad enough. Thanks.

My '92 developed a gasoline leak at the o-ring where the fuel pressure regulator connects to the fuel rail. Very strong fuel smell when the car was shut off. If you can determine that the odor is coming more from the front than the rear, this could be the problem. Immediately after shutting off the engine, check for moisture under the fuel pressure regulator.

I was able to fix the problem with an $8 box of assorted o-rings from Auto Zone. It's been fine for over a year now.
