All,
I've been tearing into the suspension on my '67 220 wagon. After saving my pennies for a while, I'm replacing the springs, including the drivers side front one that was broken off two coils up, with John Parker's progressive springs and bilstein shocks all around. After weeks of taking each side apart (I can't sneak in as much shop time as I could before kids!) I'm starting to put everything back together. The issue I'm running into is the brakes. Last night, the bleeder valve broke off the passenger side from caliper. I had spent the previous two weeks spraying it with PB Blaster because I could see that it had been treated poorly. I also warmed it up with a torch as hot as I felt comfortable a couple times, thinking to ease it out. Alas, first attempt and it came right off, just about flush with the caliper. Any advice on trying to extract it or should I just bite the bullet and order a replacement caliper? Its obviously in there pretty tight and someone before me wrestled with it almost to the point of breakage.
Another question I've got is on the brake hardlines. Can someone confirm what the flare type is? I've seen people claiming its a single flare, double flare and bubble flare.
Finally, what about that hardline between the caliper and the flex line? It seems to have different fittings on the caliper end than the end that joins to the flex line. Is it available anywhere? I'm thinking that with two different fittings, it's probably not available (preflared and unbent) in a typical parts store. Does anyone either have a source for these or know the specs for the fittings?
Thanks in advance!
Noah
