read old post but still need help on temp gauge 700 1988

740 1988 non-turbo. In advance Sorry for the long story.

My temp gauge was only working some of the time. Then it stop. I had though that it was stuck like my gas gauge does so I took the cluster out. There seemed to be a printed circuit over the back of the gauge so didn't want to fool with it.

The original owner I found out thru car fax had turned the od back 50K so he had managed to pull the plastic case in front of the off a little.

Now here is my big mistake. I did the same thing and though possibly the gauge was stuck so I used a hanger thru the plastic case and hit the temp arm. What happen is it arm decided to drop down way below its original off position.

So I have two questions. Since a new gauge quote from volvo is $220 rather not go that route.

1. Did I screw up the gauge beyond repair or can I pull it out and move the dial to original position. If I can repair it how do I remove the gauge without messing up the circuit board.

2. Temp Gauge sensor. For the life of me read these boards still a little confused. Seems that the sensor is on the intake below cylinder 2. I removed the rubber boot and see 2 wires seems to be yellow and yellow/black. Assume yellow/black is ground. If i jump the two wires the gauge if working should read hot. Am I correct.

Again sorry for the long story but any help please would be appreciated
