Hi everyone:
I looked in the archives for this but could not find a specific answer:
I have a '91 740 and I purchased a set of Panasonic 5.25" speakers to mount in the front doors - where no speakers existed before. I removed the door grilles and cut through the vinyl where the factory speakers would have been. I located the factory wires (which work fine) but the speakers seem to be slightly too small for the hole.
How have others here solved this mounting problem? I don't want to go with 6.5" speakers as I want to keep the stock grilles if possible - and I don't want to butcher the door panels if possible. It just seems like there isn't enough meat to attach 5.25" speakers to. And what material is there is a flaky masonite/fiberboard that I doubt will hold up to much strain.
Any experiences? As always, thanks in advance.
