Happy Labor Day (how appropriate) to eveyone. First, I've been Volvo driver for the past 23 years. My first was a '85 745 Turbo Diesel (License plate was SMKNURI...Smoke In Your Eye) and my second/current it this '95 945T.
I have a "Few" issues that I have to handle over the next few weekends on my '95 945T wagon w/223K on it...they all just built up so it's time to jump in and get started!!
AC Compressor R'nR, Head gasket R'nR AGAIN, Full interior exchange with a '95 965, FM radio comes and goes at it's own choosing, excessive pressure keeps my valve cover greasy, I thought the 95 didn't have a flame trap to clog up, rear window washer not squirting anymore.
1) AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR: it began to squeeling off and on a few weeks back and even drag the belt but I'd still get cold air...so I continued to nurse it along....welllll---finally (yesterday) it gave up the ghost (it squealed to death then no more cold!)
I had already bought a new compressor and dryer/evap to replace them both. My questions are do I need to replace anything else and what is the oil/freon mix. I'm having a local shop vacuum and install the freon (I don't have a pump) but I heard you can get it pre-mixed...any clues here??
2) HEAD GASKET R'nR...3 yrs ago the lower radiator hose went away on the fwy and overheated the engine to the point of valve chatter...I R'nR'd the head, got it milled, replaced all the valve seals. Everything was wonderful and it worked GR8...right up to last month when the reservoir hose to back to the turbo gave way...on the fwy again...and it overheated (no hot valve chatter this time, caught it quicker)!!!
I replaced the hose, refilled coolant but now it has a very slight loss of coolant. Rather than screwing around with stop lead or other stuff I ordered a complete gasket set from Groton and new head bolts. I've never been happy with the fact that I reused old bolts so they and a new balancer are going on. I'm going to replace the head gasket and have the head checked for warping...again. The question is, if it's OK, do I need to R'nR the valve seals etc again...
3) INTERIOR SWAP: mine is getting a little tired. I have access to a complete interior from a 95 945 (diferent color lt gray vs tan) and want to do a complete swap out. The 2 biggest differences are the 2 Power front seats, the adjustable steering wheel and the radio/dash stack. the other trim/headliner/etc... should be fairly simple to R'nR.
So, are the seats easy to wire/fit, is the steering wheel an easy bolt on exchage, and what about the radio/center stack fit? Also, are there any other potential gremlins I need to look out for in this chage out? I'll keep the original gage cluster.
ALSO, do the 4 doors easily fit from the 95 965 onto my 945?? (my passenger door is crunched so if its an easy swap I'll do all 4, I like the exterior side rub strips better on the 965 and I also don't have to R'nR the inside door trim, just bolt them on.) I have to R'nR the Pass front fender also. Oh yea, I'm gonna get it all repainted anyway.
4) RADIO: the radio has it's own issues!! when I turn it on the FM usually only give hissing...then after driving a while ( on my bumpy dirt road ) it usually comes on!! I hope that the interior swap will resolve this!!
My next step could be a V8 swap....but that's for another thread!! lol
Thanks all who respond, I realize this is a good 10 lbs of fertilizer in a 5 lb bag, but I intend to keep this baby for another 200K.
