M41 tranny swap 140-160

I am in the process of installing a M41 on my 68 142. So far I have modified the transmission tunnel for the longer top plate. Now the problem is the flange on the back of the driveshaft, which has a wider spacing (the transmission is out of a 74). Is it an option to cut off the stock flange and weld it to the new driveshaft or do I need to replace the entire rear end? Will 240 rear ends match up to this particular application?

Thanks in advance

Chris
