I got a call from my son tonight concerning his 88 744Ti M46.
After work he started it and the idle jumped to 2500 rpm. He checked the throttle spool and it was closing properly. I had him meet me and swap cars.
When shifting the engine speed starts to drop to a normal idle range and then immediately jumps back to 2500 and holds there.
When I got it home I disconnected the idle control motor and the idle immediately dropped to normal and stayed there.
I gave a quick look at the FAQ's but didn't see this addressed concerning the idle control motor.
My plan is to clean the throttle body and check the throttle position switch first thing tomorrow and then probably remove and clean the idle motor.
If that does not solve the problem what type of testing can I do on the idle motor? Any experience with these symptoms?
Thanks,
Randy
