760 Turbo cold starting issues 700 1987

With winter around the corner, I will undoubtably face again the following issues once the temp drops to around 40F
1987 760 Turbo When starting cold below 40F, when I attempt to start, I encounter the following conditions:
Engine will crank but not start, until several attemps to start illuminates by default the overdrive indicator, once this illuminates it will start.. BUT...
While it is running in this state;
No gauges are operating
Headlights and other electical items are operating at reduced voltage

While driving the overdrive operates opposite from what it should, that being that the overdive activates while the overdrive light is on not off.

Also, after some time the battery light will begin to illuminate, perhaps suggesting that there is limited or no charge going to the battery.

Eventually and only after the engine warms and the interior temp rises, toggling the overdrive lock-out switch often results to a total return of full function to the guages and full voltage to all assessories.
Any ideas of what may cause this-it is totaly temperature related as it NEVER occurs in the warmer months of the year, but occurs every day during the winter.

Many thanks in advance for your replies and suggestions!
