I removed the engine to rebuild the shortblock, and I have rebuilt several engines so this presented no difficulty. The car had sat maybe 18 months before I reinstalled the engine and reconnected everything. Now it won't start.
If I inject starter fluid in the intake tract, it will fire. I have checked and rechecked the timing belt and distributor timing and am confident it is correct. I get about 35-40 psi fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I have replaced the ECU with a junkyard unit - no difference; same thing with the AMM and the ignition power stage amplifier. Once the engine fires on the starting fluid, if I continue to crank it, it will act like it is firing on one cylinder and almost wants to run, but it never does. I replaced the 25 amp fuse and fuse holder. Also I replaced both the injection and fuel pump relays. I am not getting any raw fuel smell at all, and I am certain that the injectors are not firing, but cannot figure out the reason. Could I have caused a problem moving the old wiring harness around when I pulled the engine and reinstalled? What do I need to look for as the cause of the injectors not firing?
