transmission oil 700 1990

I just had some transmission work done at the dealership to fix a leak. What color is the transmission fluid on an M46 transmission. It looks to be the same color of oil, but from what I've read they are supposed to get ATF type F. Am I missing something, or did the volvo dealership put the wrong kind of oil in?
