Have seen postings about similar symptom but no follow through to final answer so I am sending out my story.

Have just bought an '87 240 sedan with foreknowledge of this symptom and will probably soon put a new steering rack on it but before plunking down the money and time I'll ask if anyone out there has positive success over this issue.

The steering is like power steering on steroids! However, it tracks perfectly, exceedingly smooth and straight. No unusual tire wear. But the power assist is so great it feels like the link to the steering shaft is disconnected and you are just spinning the steering wheel connected to nothing down below! Like freewheeling..

Driving it is effortless, but also it is like standing on a basketball or a football. It will oversteer and dive either way with the slightest effort. You can control it once you get used to it, just basically lock your elbows against your ribs and don't move! Just THINK left and right, and it'll go...

The prior owner said it was overboosted, over boosted. I've never heard the term before. So, is a new rack the definitive end all, and I might as well do it with certain success or is there another way to deal with it...? adjustment of some sort??
