Inspections and Taillights 200 1989

Took the 240 for the bi annual inspection yesterday, and to prepare, I did .... nothing. New Jersey does the enhanced emissions testing, and, as with any older car with 208K, I was concerned about the test.

Not to worry. The readings were 394 (max 1273) for NOx, 28 (max 167) for hydrocarbons and .24 (max .94) for CO. When I got home, I checked the standards, and found that this 19 year old meets the standards for the 1994+ model years. Amazing.

So it passed, but I did get an "Advisory Condition" for a cracked tail light lens, which has to be fixed withing 60 days.

FCP has aftermarket replacements for $89 each, and Volvo parts for $155. I found some "made in Estonia" parts, both sides for abotu $100. I plan on keeping this car till the doors fall off, so I'm inclined to spend the extra money, and I'll probably go for both sides rather than have one shiny new side and one weathered.

Does anyone have any positive experience with the aftermarket types that would convince me otherwise? And are there any sources for the genuine Volvo parts that would be less pricey?

Thanks in advance for the help.
