no washer on transmission drain plug....what to do next? 200 1981

I loosened the drain plug on the 245 this afternoon, and true to form there is no washer. Since I didn't remove a washer (from the drain plug) two weeks ago when I did the transmission flusg, I am going under the assumption that there wasn't a drain plug washer in the first place. I made sure to tighten the drain plug as much as possible, and I will check for leaks tomorrow-after the car has been driven. There weren't any leaks coming from the drain plug before I flushed the fluid, so something must be up. I know this should be readily apparent, but I feel as if I am missing something rather basic. I would welcome, and very much appreciate, any comments and suggestions. Danke
