hi there:
i have a 1982 diesel wagon that now has a 1984 gas engine in it.
the rear wiper worked when i first got the car two weeks ago. now it only goes one way, until you push it back the other way, and it will continue to cycle until it gets all the way to the passenger side again, at which point it will freeze again.
i opened up the tailgate, and noticed that if the arm that goes from the motor to the wiper touches the frame, it sparks. is it supposed to be wired that way?
also, the light for the rear defrost is always on, unless i unplug the wire leading to the defrost on the driver's side. then the switch works like it should, and shuts off the light in the switch after about 15 minutes.
this car's electrical system has been totally jacked up, as it is the marriage between the original 82 wiring and the 84 engine that was dropped in. i just got the fuse box put back together, it was all blade fuses hanging down all willy-nilly.
also, i checked the wires in the hinges on the tailgate, as that seems to be a big problem with these old wagons. the wires at the hinges seem to be in surprisingly great shape.
