Hello, Let me introduce myself, as I am new to this board. I normally am very active on the Alfa Romeo Bulletin Board (AlfaBB) under the 164 section. I have purchased a non-running '89 240DL as a second car to back up my Alfa 164L and to keep me busy. Well, I purchased it for very little money and it is a good rust-free car from here in Tennessee. Now for the problem, I discovered the reason that the PO removed some parts for his 740. It had a blown head gasket which he neglected to tell me about. The front cylinder has had water (he did not have any coolant in the cooling system when I drained it, just water) sitting in it for about 8-9 months so you can guess the problem. It has corrosion in the cylinder. The liner has some pitting and the valves in that cylinder have some rust which I think will clean up and be fine. The problem is the pitting and surface rust in the cylinder liner. Is this block trash or can I have it honed/bored or should I just clean it up best I can and run it 'til I buy a new (salvage yard) motor? Looking for advice. Thanks
Charles
