Electricity Help 1982 GL240 200 1982

I need help. I just went through the trouble of replacing the wiring harness on my 1982 Volvo GL 240. I would like to give Dave Barton thanks for supplying me with a quality harness at a price I could afford. The process took a little more effort than I expected.

Once installed I have a bigger short than what I had before. The engine tried to turn over about 3 times until I killed the battery. I then tried to jump it with another vehicle and ended up killing that battery as well. Did I mention that it drained the battery of the other vehicle in the off position. I know that you should always ground out the dead battery on the engine block, but we were trying to see if she would crank. I am having a hard time isolating were the short would be. Any suggestions were the current is going would be greatly appreciated. Another side note The jumper cables got pretty hot during attempted jump.

The only places I can imagine would be the Starter or the alternator??? HELP
