'77 Steering Wheel Swap? 200

Hello, I would love to swap the school bus size wheel on my '77 244 with my '84 245 Turbo wheel. I removed the nut on the '77, but that bugger is stuck. The Haynes manual mentions the use of a wheel puller for pre-78 models? I would think since the later wheel "supposedly" fits this car, a puller wouldn't be necessary. Should I continue with the tapping side to side and more PB'laster? Just wanted advice before I proceed...
