Poor acceleration from stop 700 1991

1991 740GL. Punch the accelerator from a stop/idle and it has no pep at all. Vacuum lines all good, recent tune-up, all the easy stuff I can think of has been done. Runs good at highway speed and smooth all other times, just no spunk at all. Air conditioner not used. Check engine light is on - I suspect from the engine lugging hard to get up the RPM's.

Any solutions will be gladly tried... except for the really expensive ones.
