I've been trying to track down a cold start flooding problem on this car since I got it last year. I thought I had solved it last winter but its back again with vengance. I was looking under the hood to unplug the cold start injector in case it was dumping fuel when I remembered it was my 89 that had a cold start injector. I noticed the dipstick was up about half an inch. I pushed it down and the car seems to be behaving fine again.
I know the dipstick can cause these problems. I had a Saab 900 that would not idle at all if the dipstick was even slightly out of place. But I'm not sure why the dipstick keeps popping up. The flametrap is squeeky clean. Not sure what else would cause this. Maybe excessive blow by? The engine appears to be in good condition though I have not compression tested it. It has a very slow oil leak on the front end I have not tracked down yet.
