my idel races on my 1990 240 sedan 200

i start her up and idels fine. then i place is D and she takes off. i place in N and it races like around 2000. whats wrong? all vacume lines check ok. i beleive its a sensor cas the check eng light comes on when it starts to sha,e then stalls. how do i fix it? thanks.
