best way to repair rear parcel shelf 200 1981

Common issue, no obvious solution. Rear parcel shelf has been baked by the sun, so the tan fuzzy stuff has lost color and deteriorated. Anyone have ideas on best way to restore it? I had been thinking about ordering some headliner material and using 3M spray adhesive to bring it back to something at least approximating original condition.
