please help, 945 taillight mixup? 900

Hello All
my new 94 945 is showing bulb out.
the car has two very good condition taillights date coded 03.
the taillight on the driver side houses 4 bulbs, the taillight on the passenger side houses three bulbs the top passenger tail has no cutout for the top bulb.
i have no brake light on the driver side with headlights on or off, but the running light works. all other lights work.
what to do?
are different sockets used like the 240,740, tails?
or different taillights for different years/models?
please help
