LH2.2 AMM adjustment question. 700 1987

I've read the FAQ and elsewhere about watching the 02 sensors voltage swing and adjusting the AM's screw to get it close as possible to a nice even swing between roughly .1v and .8v.

Awhile ago, along the path of getting my 87 745ti in shape, I found my 02 voltage was sitting at .8v(rich) when hot and only dropped to lower voltage(lean) off throttle from holding higher rpm(which it should).
So I commenced to adjusting, starting AMM voltage reading was about 2.6v, and I ended up at I believe .8v or less to get the meter to swing on the 02 voltage. So it's in closed loop and all that, great.

Question: Is it odd to have had to adjust it so very far from the out of the box 2.6-ish volts the AMM had? I checked two of them, they both had the same result and initial reading.

Thanks..
