Earlier this week, I replaced the front wheel bearings on my 1985, 245 GL. This is an extremely low mile car, but at 23 years young, I thought it was time to do something. Not a hitch anywhere, until I went to install the new grease seals. I had purchased Timken seals (one piece) only to find that they would not fit (diameter too small, and also side shields too deep). The seals in the car look like the one that the parts house calls Beck-Arnley. These are two piece seals. I finally ordered new ones from the friendly-local Volvo dealer. These are two piece seals like the original ones. My manual talks about installing the seals, but has no photo, or illustration showing which way the seal goes. Does the flat side of the seal go against the bearing, or against the spindle? Help please.
