940 Under Pressure 900 1995

Well, I spent the good part of Sunday changing the breather box. I didn't find it too difficult. I cursed that EGR bracket bolt for about two hours. But got it done, and I don't look forward to changing it again any time soon. I swapped out the breather box, flame trap, flame trap holder, and the two hoses. Unfortunately, I still have positive pressure coming out of the oil fill hole.

I suppose the first thing I should have done is a compression test. How much do these usually cost?

Is crankcase pressure always indicative of piston ring(s) giving out? Could it be anything less simple (and costly) to fix? Is this an urgent matter to address or can I live with it?

I don't want to give up on the car since it is a blast to drive, and I have 13 years of memories with it.

bummed out
