232, MAF, & Disconnecting Power 900

After a long and tiring battle with the code 232 in my 95 960, I finally bough a new/refurb MAF from Volvo for $390. Royal pain, hoe it hasn;t fried the cat running lean/ for so long.

As it is a delicate electroninc item, I was wondering if it is adviseable to disconnect the negative battery terminal when connecting as a safeguard.

Is it wiser to clear all codes first to make it easier to tell if the new MAF works properly and is the fix to this 232?
