OK folks, help me figure this one out: tonight I was on my way to the girlfriend's house when my tranny started doing weird stuff like slipping and downshifting only to spin. I thought, "Well, hell, I guess it's finally dying on me." Then, it starts making this scraping noise - hard to tell where it's coming from - only when over 2000 rpms or so. Does it in neutral, park, and any drive gears. Then, going up some hills, when I had to give it gas, it starts jerking like it's trying to stall. I ended up running a stop sign before a steep hill on the way because I doubted I'd make it otherwise.
What could this be? I have been having tranny problems, I know - I've been having to go about 40mph in the morning before it will shift out of 1st. And I was totally cool when it started slipping - I was glad the tranny was finally dead and I could justify the work of replacing it. But the scraping noise - like something ran dry? - and the jerking/attempting to stall - what could that be??
I did check the fluids, engine oil and tranny fluid looked fine, except the engine oil is a little burnt - it's been about 7000 miles since I changed it (Amsoil synthetic). Tranny has had about 40 quarts of fluid through it in the last few months from trying to fix my shifting problems and it looks and smells like new.
Could an exploding tranny cause these scraping noises and cause the car to jerk and buck?
Bounce some ideas off me, throw it out there if ANY thing comes to mind. Thanks guys!
Sean
