I accidentally drove my 92 240 through about 8-inch deep water, about 15-20 feet in length. While I was going through it the warning lights all blinked, and the car struggled.
Immediately after the car will start and idle normally, but after about 2 minutes the idle begins to go up and down and then it quits altother. There is very little power after the 2 minutes time, and then it always quits if you try and put it in gear.
The warning codes were 1-1-3 and 2-3-2, all related to fuel system and injectors. I investigated the external fuel pump and found a barely-connected wire. I went ahead and replaced the wire, the problem continued. I replaced the external fuel pump, and the problem continued - no change at all.
I tested the alternator by connecting a meter to the battery. It holds 12 volts while the car runs for the first 2-3 minutes. It stays at 12 volts when the car dies, not a volt less... The battery and alternator seem strong, unless there is a better way to test the alternator.
Any ideas - this occured immediately after the deep water, and must be related to that event.
Thanks,
Joe
