Value of Rebuilt Transmision 200

Hello, I'm looking to purchase a used 1990 Volvo 240. It has approximately 230,000 miles, but has had the fuel pump and struts replaced, and more notably, the transmission was rebuilt 500 miles ago. The owner has a receipt states $2,900 for the rebuild and is asking just below that for the sale of the Volvo. I thought this was high, but was unsure of the value of a rebuilt transmission. he is selling the car as he got a deal on a Mercedes 230 that he said he couldn't pass up, and I can see that in his drive way. The wagon could use a paint job, but the interior is in great shape with no rips in the upholstery or cracks in the dash. What do you feel is a fair value for this wagon? Also, what is the fuel efficiency of this automatic wagon? Thank you for your time and help.
