Recommended Factory Parts 900

I am going to have some free time in the next few weeks to do some massive maintenance on my 1994 944T and 89 740 GL.
I have reviewed the FAQ and searched the messages and am curious what everyone's experience was with factory vice aftermarket parts. I have read posts that say to use the factory strut bearings and I use the factory timing belt and seals.
Are there any other recommendations? I am especially interested in brake, steering and suspension parts. I prefer to do the job once and have it last for another 180K miles.
Also, the 740 has aluminum control arms. As long as both are replaced, there is no problem switching to steel if they need replacing, correct?
I would appreciate anybody's thoughts.
