My son's '91 740 died suddenly the other day and would not start. I checked the timing belt and found it to be several teeth off of the marks and in need of replacement. While I was at it, I replaced the oil seals and tensioner. I put everything back together and tried to start. It almost fired a couple of times, but would not start. I checked the beld again and saw that it was of of the marks by 4 teeth. I reinstalled the belt, tried it again and had the same result. I did a search on this board and followd the recommendation to clean well behind the geers. Am I missing something. I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
