Hello everyone,
I've been doing some thinking about my oil lately.
I live in NB, Canada, and we've been having a very cold winter.
I think if I had a new(ish) engine I'd be using a 0w-40 synthetic this winter, but I'm reluctant to switch to such an oil as my engine is very worn (435k km, lots of classic mid-80's-redblock-turbo rod & wrist pin noise & worn-out-valve-cushion noise).
Are mineral oils better for badly worn engines like mine?
Is there any reason to use/not use synthetic oil in a badly worn engine?
Are the "High Mileage" oils anything special? I haven't been able to find the multigrade specs I want in the special high mileage oils, but I can look harder if anyone thinks it's worth it.
