rant mode: hit and run (sorta) 200 1993

Seems like I've been posting a lot on vaguely on-topic stuff, but this just is killing me. Hopefully all you other 240 enthusiasts can understand my pain. Apologies if this is considered off topic; if some mod wants to get rid of it I understand.

I was parked at Wally World (yeah, evil empire, but my brother needed school stuff and I had to pick up some other crap too.) I hate Wal-Mart, but the prices are so cheap I really don't care that much. My mission is always get in and get out as fast as I possibly can. Anyway, we were in for maybe 15 minutes around 4 this afternoon. Came back to the 240, loaded it up, got in and started it up. When I put it in gear I heard an awful scraping noise. I had some vague problems where there is a scraping sound for the first turn or two when it's cold, but this was a very nice warm day. Figured that maybe something had finally broken, re-parked it, and went to the passenger fender. I about lost it when I saw that essentially the entire front fender portion above the wheel was pushed in a good 1.5-2 inches, and the fender liner was sticking out and scraping against the tire. After a few (I'll admit, loud) choice words and odd stares from other weird-ass customers (this Wal-Mart always seems to attract nutty people) I tried to process the situation here. They had hit my car and ran. There's obviously not going to be any easy way to deal with this person. This car is my absolute favorite thing in the world. To think someone could do that to my car was like how someone must feel when thir child has been hurt or something like that.

I called the Wake Forest police non-emergency number, and sat in the car chain smoking until she arrived. The officer was very nice but told me there was little that can be done. The cameras probably wouldn't see who did it, their license plate, or who was driving, all of which were crucial to me having a case against someone. (wtf? why have cameras then?) Pretty much, it's my problem now.

I'm home on break from college, and my parents seem to think I'm way overreacting here. They agree it sucks but thats where it stops. I live for this car. I have been unable to work on it for so long that when I'm home I spend all the time I can on it. Last week I repaired all the door handles (thanks for the hints, Art) did the motor and tranny mounts, put in a new batttery, Nu-Finished it twice, and so much other stuff. This car is like a child to me, and I take amazing care of it.

I'll be heading down to LKQ tomorrow to try to find an acceptable fender to replace it, and order some paint from the dealer. Any idea how in which forms besides touch-up pen you can buy Volvo paint, anyone? Since I'm leaving Saturday I doubt I'll be able to fix it in time, so I'll be driving a car that looks like a beater for awhile, which I hate.

The main point is that I simply can't fathom how someone could hit a car causing pretty serious damage and leave it. yeah, maybe you screwed up, but have the decency to do something about it! I don't even care if you're uninsured or some other manner of sketchball. Do people have no sense of what is right and wrong anymore? I just hope (no, I know) that they get what's coming to them, and then some. Maybe their car will catch fire and incinerate them or something (I think that's too good for them.) I live for this car, and the last thing I want is for something to happen to it and someone get away with it. Am I just overreacting here?

Well, if you made it this far, thanks for reading. I felt like I needed to vent somewhere.
