shuddering brick 200 1986

My Brick's hesitation continues. The problem arises when accelerating hard from a stop or when flooring it where the tranny downshifts. It feels almost like a cyl is not firing. It ususally misses or shutters 3-4 times then smoothes out. I pulled the distributor cap...as this car seems to accumulate a lot of carbon on the contact patches between the rotor and posts...nothing....spot on clean. I then took carb cleaner and sprayed it on the potential leak spots with the engine running....nothing....I have not pulled the plugs to look at them due to time constraints. Checked the vac line on the fuel pressure regulator....no fuel smell. I was in the store so I bought a bottle of "dry gas" to add to the 1/3 full tank to potentially absorb any water that could have accumulated in the tank....I drive so little these days (1 tank every 6 weeks) i think there is the off chance that it could occur...again probably a waste but it was on sale for $1...I have a spare fuel pump relay....I was thinking of swaping it out...i figure the worst thing that could happen is I waste my time...what are the symptoms of a bad relay? On the up side in checking all of this stuff I decided to check my tranny fluid...it was a pint or so low...acceptable for 15,000 miles or so...imho.
Any ideas? what to do next?
