Everything was completely normal until last night, went to start the car, nothing. Lights and all electrical acc's work. There is a single click, but I'm not sure if that is the starter solenoid or just the fuel pump relay. Will not turnover with a jump (even tried a known good battery from another car), but can be push started (man. trans) and runs fine. I have searched the archives for similar problems and they seem to point to either a bad starter and/or solenoid or a bad battery/ground connection. The connections at the battery are clean, but I can't really do much more than that where the car is right now (I live in a high rise condo and car repairs are not allowed), but I could have it towed to my father's house for further investigation.
Here's the really strange part, though: after I try to start it, all electrical power in the car is completely dead for several minutes. Then it just mysteriously comes back. I have not seen anybody else describe this symptom. Because of this, I really doubt that the starter is bad (especially since several threads have mentioned the rarity of bad starters in these cars). Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.
