Has anyone seen a b230f with this type of setup? 1985

I had the opportunity to meet a Volvo owner today who was driving a 245 that the driver’s door indicated was produced in June of 1985. It was equipped with a b230f. The car was from Arizona.

As we talked I realized he was not familiar with his car and I had him lift the hood. I intended to point out the possible causes of an oil leak he said he had.

It did not have a flame trap. It did not have an oil separator. The area on the block where the oil separator would normal sit had somewhat of a bulge on it, but the light was not good and I could not get a good look at it. The bulge seemed to extend up on the side of the block, not just on the horizontal plane that normally has an opening for the separator.

The fuel rail was a little odd in that the fuel pressure regulator was not at the forward end of fuel rail like I am familiar with. The fuel rail had a 180 degree arc (with about a 4” radius) in the end so the regulator was behind and below the normal position.

Has anybody ever seen a b230f without a flame trap and oil separator with a fuel rail as described??

Randy
