I got a great deal on a '87 Volvo 740 GLE in fantastic shape with only 127k miles, and a detailed maintenance history.
I did a little research and discovered my car has the dreaded ZF 4HP-22 automatic transmission that everyone seems to have problems with.
I am a little worried. I just bought this car and I want to keep it for a few years, and pack some miles on it. The transmission shifts perfectly and the car runs like a dream. The transmission got flushed and the fluid and filter replaced at 124k, and I believe at ~80k when a lot of work was done to the car.
So can I expect this transmission to last a while, or will I be crawling under the car one Saturday not too long from now to do a transmission swap? If the transmission is running on borrowed time, I'd rather cut my losses and sell the car while it runs well.
What should I do?
