Engine Oil Cooler 200 1991

Hello, I read that using an oil cooler can also damage an engine, Bishops piece. But, I have a '91 245GL with a B200F engine with 220,000. I intend to start towing again with the car over very long distances. Would a cooler still not be helpful to the engine? I live in England, at present, the car is GB spec with a manual 5-speed box. The car has always been well maintained, it is just preventitive rather than cure!
