Help please! I have all red warning lights simultaneously. Voltage on a battery is 12V with or without engine running and does not change when an alternator is operating. Belts are ok. There is no voltage difference at all between the battery + and the operating alternator + along this thick red wire, i tested it upto 2.5V scale. I tried to test the voltage on the battery without the external alternator's voltage control unit, then the voltage switches between 12 and 6 volts. With voltage control it is stable 12V. The battery is new.
1. How is it possible to understand what is broken, the alternator itself or something else?
2. The best way to do it i think is to run the engine and look if it would stop. Then charge the battery by a charger. But how long will take to spend the charge of the battery if the very alternator is broken? And how many miles will i be able to drive to some shop for example only on the battery?
3. May i install 85 or 70 amp alternator instead of the old 55amp or should i look for the exactly same model?
Thank you in advance for answers!
