Busting loose that top strut nut! 200

Was at the Pick ur Part this weekend looking for a rear brake light cover for a 245. Inga's fell off and cracked a couple of weeks back.

Saw this poor guy trying to get that top nut loose on a strut assembly. He had gotten in loose and had laid to the side with three spring compressors bolted in place. He could not get the top strut bolt loose from the assembly. Told him that you took that loose but not all the way when the strut is still bolted up in there. So he put it back up there and I loaned him my 15/16 SAE offset box end wrench from the toolbox. He had to pull the spring compressors back off and punched out two of the studs trying get it back up in there. I think he was after a the top mount, but my Spanlish is not so good. He gave my wrench back and left the strut hanging there on the ground after a few minutes still bolted on there.

I had a terrible time getting one of mine loose last year when I did my struts. Used a crescent wrench, a Harbor Freight 15/16 offset box-in wrench, and a small 10 mm wrench. The drivers side took two people 10 or 15 minutes, a chewed up bolt, and a busted knuckle. Was thinking about bolting down that spring and breaking out the Dremel and the heavy duty cutting wheels when it finally came loose.

So while I am thinking about it and before I have to do it again, do you have any tips or tricks to get that spongy thing loose?

Regards,

PT
